Trying my hand at star photography in central France last night, I caught an early Perseid meteor and distant lightning in he same shot. Makes up for not bringing a remote release, leaving my 'astrotraker' useless. shooting star + lightning by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr
Can't you use the astrotracer with the camera on self-timer? That would negate the need for the remote as any shake introduced by pressing the shutter should have dissipated at the end of the timer.
Mike, nice image I would be well pleased if I managed to get such a shot, today I came across a article with regard the Perseid meteor display and apparently one is due 12/13 August the source of this info was from Photography talk you might already know this but just in case I thought I mentioned it.
I've not used the Astrotracker previously, but it's only available in bulb mode (grayed out in Av, M etc). It seems an unnecessary restriction to me manual & self timer would be fine for duration of many shots IMO.
Yes the perseids peak 12-13th but can be seen at lower frequencies for about a week either side. I was vaguely aware of them being early august, and saw the peak dates when checking the spelling Apparently they are expected to be about 100 an hour (under ideal conditions) at their peak.
