SRS Pentax Open Day Sat 9th Sept with Matt Emmett

Over on the other UK place there's an announcement of an Open day at SRS Watford with Pentax Ambassador Matt Emmett. I won't repeat all the details but there's a couple of talks and a practical walkabout - I think the main focus is on using the KP, but being Pentax related I'm sure it'll go off-topic too

Too far for me to wander, but if you live close-ish I suspect learning from the experiences of Matt would be enjoyable and worthwhile :)

Here's the link for more details (hope that's okay Smeggy?):

I have been pondering going to the afternoon session of this. Have just got a Pentax KP in the SRS promotion this weekend so it may well be rather usefull.

£10 (using the code) for a couple of hours tuition from Matt and a free memory card seems good to me, although Watford is a bit of a treck from Reading on the train.

I've just signed up for this.

Would have done for £20 anyway, but given that the cost is half with the code (£10) and it includes a 64GB SD card, it's a bit of a no brainer! (for those living close enough to Watford).

Hope to see others from this forum there. ;wave:

Looks like I'll be seeing a few of you tomorrow then :)
They're still trying to sort out what the photo walk bit will entail but hopefully there will be something interesting we can all go and shoot.

Watford is a fantastic place for photography. Here are my top ten tips:

1. Get on a metropolitan tube and go to somewhere interesting.
2. See 1 above.
3. See 1 above.
4. See 1 above.
5. See 1 above.
6. See 1 above.
7. See 1 above.
8. See 1 above.
9. See 1 above.
10. Cassiobury Park is quite nice, it even has squirrels. And pigeons.

Thanks Mark. Yes, I enjoy events like this and it is definitely good to put real faces to these online avatars sometimes. Thanks for coming.

Good to meet you Matt, and to hear you take on the Pentaxes you use. Of course, seeing your selected photographs and hearing about their content as well as what was involved in working with your locations was nothing short of fascinating. I really did enjoy your talk and presentation.

It was also good to get my hands on the Pentax KP, I had not realised that it was so sweet to hold. If ever a camera was made for Limited lenses, this must be it! Ricoh man (sorry I can't remember his name) and Matt provided clear evidence of this camera's ability to shoot successfully at high iso. Normally I don't go for the silver finish, but it does look good, very retro with black primes!

Thanks also for lending me your D FA 24-70mm, Matt, I was (and am still) happy with the D FA 28-105mm, but having reviewed the snaps I took, the step up in image quality is immediately evident. Pity I had the K-3ii rather than the K-1 with me, but I can see why you are perfectly happy with the 24-70! Until now, I was thinking I won't be hankering after another lens, but now I'm not so sure!

It was great to meet Mark (Punkrockemo) and other Pentaxians - first time in the company of so many, :thumb: .

Good to see Chris and the others at SRS, they are indeed an affable group and create a very friendly atmosphere in their Aladin's cave. I don't doubt I'll be back! Also, thanks to you guys for organising this, and indeed to SRS/Ricoh for the SD card and lens vouchers which you gifted to us - very much appreciated. :)

Thank you all at SRS, Matt and Luke for a great morning. Excellent info on the KP and the K1 - especially when comparisons were made to the K3. It was great to get hands on with both cameras, thanks Matt for letting me try you 15-30 on the K1 too - as wide as I need and then some. My upgrade path from K3 could well be KP or K1. After trying both - the K1 felt better in my hands (as familiar as my K3) and looking at the samples shots I took inside the church in dark corners it would suit me well. I'm not sure that I would be interested in using my DA* zooms in crop mode on the K1 so lens upgrades/trade-ins would be required too (anyone have experience using them with the K1?)
