Camera repairs: Mathers of Lancashire

If anyone needs camera or lens repairs done, I thoroughly recommend Mathers of Lancashire, a small camera shop in Bolton.

My A7rii got water damage. Alan Marlow, who is also a very competent guy, said he couldn't repair it, as did two professional service centres. The cheapest quote I could get, from only two places that would even look at it, was750 US Dollars. I just happened to be in Mathers one day and mentioned it to them. They suggested getting their repair guy to look at it. Two weeks and £149 later, I got it back, it's working perfectly and has also had a complete clean.

A week or so later, it occurred to me to get the guy to look at my Ricoh GR. It died over a year ago, the lens housing was jammed. Ricoh quoted me £500, so I didn't bother. No one else would even look at it. Mathers just informed me that their guy says he can fix it,, and give it a sensor clean at the same time. Cost? £114!

I will not be using anyone else for repairs from now on. There's not many small camera shops left, and Mathers have survived where others haven't. They will also match Internet prices on Sony and Pentax products, which is why they are no longer official stockists (both companies demanded they sold at their recommended prices) and don't stock either brand, but will order them in.

I'm not sure, worth giving them a ring though. The repair guy's history is in building hifi amps, but he seems able to fix most camera problems. Worth giving them a ring. Ask to speak to Stuart.

The tip is good information. Thank you.

Incidentally, I purchased my K5 from Mathers. Great service and were helpful in answering my questions.
