Can only assume that every one of Pentax and Ricoh technicians and designers are totally absorbed with the job of getting the FF model ready ...(and fixing the 70-200 f2.8) ... that they just don't have the time !

MX-1 isn't old enough to have worn through to the brass [as promised by marketing]. :)
K-01 has a cult following that the appearance of a K-02 might ruin..

Seriously though. What improvements could there be?
MX-1 doesn't need a larger sensor.
Some folk wanted a flash hotshoe mount, but why? Doubt the majority would ever use it (who mounts a flash on the Q, I know I've never done so). Maybe a manual focus ring on the lens would be good and swap the tilty screen for a vari-angle. Otherwise the MX-1 is perfect for me :)

What could a K-02 offer?
The K-01 has a weak AA filter and is plenty sharp enough.
20Mp sensor like the K-S2? Well ok, but that just means bigger files and not quite so good in low light.
Tilty screen? Yes.. The K-01 needed this. Better video? Of course - that's been said more times than anyone can count now.

They have tried three times now to better the original Q, it's debatable that the slightly larger sensor produces better photos, but certainly the design of the Q10, Q7 and Q-S1 are rubbish [I think] when compared both in style and build. The original Q is still the best imho.

So I see the MX-1, the K-01 and Q as limited classics. So long as they keep working I'm happy to own a copy of each.

Got to agree the original Q was the best of the bunch by a long way, just wished I kept hold of mine now, not that I used it much since buying the MX-1 which kinda replaced it but like Steve said its a classic or at least a future classic.

Don't need a MX-2 unless it comes with a EVF, Never understood the K-01 first time around but I do fancy one but I just don't now why as I can't see a use for it.

Also not that excited about the future FF release, especially on learning what sensor it will adopt, I can't see it being affordable anytime soon or any use to a amateur like me.

I must say I am at my happiest with the K5iis and M28mm f3.5 with the MX-1 in my pocket, new is not always better.

The MX-1 is an amazing camera; IQ, build quality, ergonomics, macro, tactile.

MX-2 could improve; Fully articulating screen, larger, maybe not 20MP sensor, faster write and improved focus not bothered about vid but some are.

I'd just have to buy one.

Do they see the Ricoh cameras filling this gap because they are at the wrong price point.

Re the sensor Steve I agree that it doesn't "need" one but comparing the RX-100 shots with crop there is some difference and whilst updating the rest it might be rude not to.

Yeh, but why compare? The MX-1 is in it's own class and [like the Q] punches well above it's weight.

As to video, you know the MX-1 actually produces better, cleaner more natural video than the Pentax APS-C camera..
It also also does really nice macro video. So if any video improvements cane be done with the MX-2, it would only be that there'd be some manual control, though the MX-1 does very well without.
Couple of samples to show that you can even get blurry background using the 4x zoom
(Watch in FullHD)

The MX-1 really makes a great go at Video, better than the K mount bodies in most aspects.

As for MX-2 I would really like the following, wrapped in a very similar body.
Much as the 1/1.7" sensor being great, it would be corporate suicide not to bring out the mk2 with the 1" sensor. The body could take it easily, and sadly the market will demand a "pro" spec compact to have one now, even if the existing one is excellent.
Aperture ring around the lens. Makes a lot of sense really.
Hotshoe! It REALLY needs a hosthoe! Enough said!
Superior write speed/buffer. It can be and is, very slow with the MX-1
Not much more really.

K-02?
I Like the left field body style. but some buttons need to be in a better position
on board PDAF. The CDAF is rather slow, but with manual lenses that does not matter.
weather sealing.
hotshoe to allow an EVF to be fitted when needed.
Tilt/twist screen.
focus peaking in RED not WHITE, to make it easier to see.

Again not much more. :thumb:
