image transfer from camera to pc

Is this to get images off the memory card and onto the PC?

I just remove the memory card and use a quality usb memory card reader, so no need for a cable for the camera itself.

Yes that's exactly what I do. :)

I often just use the SD card slot on a laptop, but the effect is the same.
IIRC the only time I've messed around with cables in the last 10 years is at the club where a Nikon user had an CF card above the capacity of my reader.

Some of my very earliest digital cameras didn't have removable media, so I had no option but to use the cable with them.

Thank you for the replies, removing the SD card is what I have been doing, was thinking that it would be less ware on the card door using a cable to transfer images some times, if its been working for you guys for years then it will work for me.
Cheers.

Not disagreeing with your logic either, just of the two I don't like to plug my camera device into a computer if I can help it to be honest. I've had some issues with that at times over the years, so now just take matters into my own hands and transfer the files manually. That way I'm not subject to camera drivers in windows and any issues along those lines.

I also periodically delete and format the card in the computer and then do the same in the camera, so I'm starting from a clean slate.
